View & Remove EXIF Data from Images Online Free — No Upload

Read EXIF metadata from JPEG/PNG images — camera make, model, GPS location, date, ISO, aperture. Strip EXIF data to protect privacy. Free, in-browser, no upload.

Quick Answer: Open your image at ViewAnyFile.app, then click the 📷 EXIF button in the toolbar to view all embedded metadata. Click Strip EXIF & Download to download a clean copy with no metadata.

What Is EXIF Data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded inside JPEG and TIFF images by cameras and smartphones when a photo is taken. This data travels with the image file whenever you share, upload, or email a photo — unless you deliberately remove it.

What EXIF Data Contains

CategoryFields
Camera infoMake, Model, Lens model, Software
Date & timeDateTime, DateTimeOriginal (when photo was actually taken)
ExposureISO, Shutter speed, Aperture (f-number), Focal length
LocationGPS Latitude, Longitude, Altitude — your exact location when you took the photo
Image specsWidth, Height, Color space, Orientation, Resolution
CopyrightArtist name, Copyright string, Image description

Why Strip EXIF Data?

The GPS location field is the most critical privacy concern. A photo taken at home and posted online publicly discloses your home address to anyone who extracts the EXIF data. Tools for extracting EXIF from social media images are freely available.

Common reasons to remove EXIF:

  • Sharing photos publicly on social media or forums
  • Sending images to strangers or clients
  • Publishing photos on a website or blog
  • Submitting photos to online competitions or publications
  • Removing identifying camera and lens information from stock photos

How to View EXIF Data with ViewAnyFile.app

  1. Open ViewAnyFile.app and drop your JPEG or PNG image
  2. Click the 📷 EXIF button in the image viewer toolbar
  3. The EXIF panel expands below the image showing all available metadata fields
  4. To download a clean copy without EXIF: click 🗑️ Strip EXIF & Download

How EXIF Stripping Works

ViewAnyFile.app strips EXIF by drawing the image onto an HTML5 Canvas element and re-encoding it. The Canvas API produces a clean image with no embedded metadata — the pixel data is identical to the original, but all EXIF, IPTC, and XMP metadata blocks are absent from the output file.

This process runs entirely in your browser. The original file and the stripped copy are never sent to any server.
